Inglewood to host community energy forum
Published: June 2026
Community members from across the Southern Downs region are invited to attend a free energy information forum in Inglewood on Thursday 6 August.
The Queensland Community Energy Forum will provide locals an opportunity to hear about current and proposed energy development in the region, speak directly with companies and government representatives, ask questions and share their perspectives.
Across a day of presentations, panel conversations and information displays, attendees will be able to hear from – and speak directly with – the people involved in energy development in the region.
The forum is being delivered by Coexistence Queensland in partnership with the Queensland Renewable Energy Council and Queensland Government.
Goondiwindi Regional Council Mayor, the Honourable Cr Lawrence Springborg AM, said the forum would provide an important opportunity for the community to access information. “Our region is seeing increasing interest from energy developers, and it is important that local people have access to clear information about what this may mean for them,” Cr Springborg said.
“Development Applications for renewables are assessed by the Queensland Government, and Council is not a decision maker. These conversations are therefore an important foundation understand how to manage impacts, identify opportunities and deliver outcomes that reflect local priorities.
“Strong regional development depends on local knowledge being heard and respected.
“These conversations are an important foundation for working together to manage impacts, identify opportunities and deliver outcomes that reflect local priorities.”
Coexistence Queensland Chief Executive Officer, Warwick Squire, said the forum was designed to support practical, informed discussion.
“Energy development can bring opportunities for regional communities, but it can also raise important questions about land, livelihoods, infrastructure and the future of our regional communities,” Mr Squire said.
“People need clear, practical information. The forum gives companies the opportunity to hear directly from landholders, residents and local businesses about what matters to them, while helping communities better understand the projects and proponents working in their region.”
Queensland Renewable Energy Council Chief Executive Officer, Katie-Anne Mulder, said forums like this were an important opportunity for industry to meet directly with the communities where projects may be developed.
“Energy companies know that successful projects depend on strong, respectful relationships with the communities in which they operate,” Ms Mulder said.
“That means being present in the region, sharing information early and clearly, and listening to the people who understand their local area best.”
The event is free to attend, with light refreshments and lunch provided.
