Community insights into Queensland gas industry

Findings from a recent community sentiment survey independently conducted by Voconiq for the GasFields Commission Queensland, now known as Coexistence Queensland, have been released.

Voconiq surveyed more than 300 community members across the Surat and Bowen Basin regions, between April to May 2024. This group included broader community members and a number of landholders that currently and may in future host gas infrastructure.

The findings provide valuable insights into current community perceptions of the gas industry and the GasFields Commission Queensland.

While the GasFields Commission Queensland has since expanded its remit and changed name to Coexistence Queensland, the survey findings will inform our organisation’s strategies to support sustainable coexistence outcomes along with balanced and respectful relationships within the gas fields.

In particular, the insights will inform Coexistence Queensland’s stakeholder engagement activities, through mechanisms such as our Community Leaders Council events as we explore collaborative mechanisms and opportunities to continue to enhance coexistence outcomes.

We remain committed to addressing community concerns, enhancing benefits, and fostering sustainable coexistence between landholders, regional communities, and the onshore gas sector.

We extend our gratitude to all survey participants for their valuable feedback, which has been instrumental to helping us understand community perspectives of the onshore gas industry in Queensland.
