New guide to help landholders navigate renewable energy

Coexistence Queensland has released a new resource to support landholders who may be considering hosting renewable energy projects on their property in deciding what happens at the conclusion of a project.

The Landholder guide: Decommissioning renewable energy projects was developed to help bridge the gap left by Queensland’s current lack of specific legislation governing land access or agreement-making for landholders hosting renewable energy projects.

The guide sets out the key matters that landholders should consider during the agreement-making process in a clear and easy-to-follow format, designed to help inform decision-making and provide confidence in negotiations.

The central aim of the guide is to empower landholders to secure agreements that are fair, equitable, and sustainable – and that protect landholders against undue liability in relation to the project.

By providing the right knowledge at the right time, it supports the development of agreements that protect landholder interests while also considering the long-term future of the land.
