Energy information forum coming to Biloela

Locals to Biloela and surrounds are invited to join an energy information forum on 24 November.

The Queensland Community Energy Forum is a free event featuring presentations, question and answer sessions and information booths with community members also invited to come along to a tour of Moura Solar Farm the following day.

The forum will bring together community, energy developers, and representatives from government, resources and agriculture to build a shared understanding, strengthen partnerships, and help ensure community is at the core of Queensland’s energy future.

Cr Nev Ferrier, Mayor, Banana Shire Council, said it was important to prioritise sharing information with the community as part of the energy development conversation.

“The forum is about working together — government, industry and community — to understand what energy development means on the ground,” Cr Ferrier said.

“Our region has a strong history of being a significant energy producer as well as supporting diverse industries including agriculture. As new development takes place, we want to make sure our community has access to the right information and has a genuine say in how energy development unfolds.

“It’s about understanding the opportunities and challenges and making sure future projects deliver real benefits for local people and businesses.”

Through direct conversations with energy developers, and representatives from transmission, resources, agriculture, government and community sectors, forum participants will be able to engage in meaningful discussions about development in the region.

Katie-Anne Mulder, Chief Executive Officer, Queensland Renewable Energy Council said the forum allows industry to have early, open and honest discussions with community.

“It is great to bring everyone together in one place to hear about energy in the region – what opportunities and challenges development presents, and to start the discussion of what it’s going to mean for the Dawson and Callide valleys,” Ms Mulder said.

“Attendees will have the opportunity to explore the challenges and potential of large-scale renewable energy projects in the region.”

Building on the success of the first four forums held in the Western Downs, Isaac, Maranoa and Flinders regions since 2024, this fifth forum will take place at the Biloela Civic Centre.

Warwick Squire, Chief Executive Officer, Coexistence Queensland, said the forums help equip landholders with the tools and information they need to work with an energy company.

“It’s vital for all parties to have access to factual, reliable information as we navigate the opportunities and impacts of energy development in the region,” Mr Squire said.

“The real benefit is ensuring landholders and companies can hear first-hand from one another; landholders learning what to expect in the development process, and industry understanding what they can do to help along that journey.”

The Queensland Community Energy Forum – previously known as the Queensland Community Renewable Forum – is delivered in partnership with Coexistence Queensland, the Queensland Renewable Energy Council, the Queensland Government, and host local councils.
