Biloela conversations inform stronger regional coexistence

Coexistence Queensland, in partnership with Banana Shire Council, released the Biloela Community Leaders Council 2025 Output Report following the event held earlier this year.

The event brought together more than 100 attendees – including landholders, First Nations representatives, state and local government and industry – to discuss the opportunities and challenges across our shared landscapes, and how we can unlock and maximise the benefits of rural and regional development.

The report captures the key themes, ideas and feedback shared on the day and outlines the next steps to continue collaboration in the region.

The report highlights common goals around communication, respectful engagement, regional workforce development and planning to maximise shared economic benefits. These insights will help shape the formation of a Banana Shire Local Reference Group – a next step being led by Banana Shire Council and supported by Coexistence Queensland.

Coexistence Queensland Chair, John Anderson, welcomed the release of the report and the Council’s willingness to continue the conversation.

“Coexistence isn’t a new idea – it’s something our people have practised for thousands of generations. But in today’s context, where regional and rural Queensland is facing big shifts in energy, land use and industry, it’s vital we find ways to bring traditional knowledge, modern expertise and local insight together,” Mr Anderson said.
